May 2011 see even more of God's Kingdom come to the world surfing community! ASP Chaplain Support In early November, the surfing world was rocked with the news of Andy Irons' death. Thankfully, CS had already set up the chaplaincy ministry and it is times such as this the chaplain is suddenly sought after. Abe Andrews was at the Puerto Rico event with the surfers at the time and reports an emotionally draining but fulfilling time as he helped organise the memorial paddle out and counsel many of Andy's friends. Similarly, Andy Carruthers was present as chaplain in Hawaii for the ASP World Longboard Championships and Liselle Wilsnaugh was still in attendace in Puerto Rico with the ASP Women's World Tour surfers. Foundations Training Foundations for leadership are just so...foundational! The CS Foundations Training material was worked through recently in New Zealand with Alan Vink, Foz, Mel Clark, BD and Gill delivering material to 6 key potential trainers in Raglan. In the UK a similar course has also just been run for leaders from Spain, Holland, the UK and Switzerland. Australia has appointed Dave Lovell to champion the training to be rolled out Australia wide. Ask your national leader for opportunities in your country. Soul Surfer In the works for some time already, a full-length movie of Bethany Hamilton's story will be hitting the big screens next April. Released by Sony Pictures and starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood, this will be one of the biggest surf movie releases ever. CSI is in talks with Bethany's management and Sony to put together tracts featuring Bethany's testimony to distribute throughout groups worldwide and share the gospel with surfers during it's release. ISA World Games Outreach - Peru The Peru CS team provided an amazing hospitality and servanthood ministry at the recent ISA World Games with 10 key volunteers working hard setting up, serving food, assisting staff and John Chuman was even appointed as the chaplain. They passed out 500 copies of the new giveaway version of the Walking on Water film through 30 nations, plus others and the contests organisers gave CS a massive thanks in the closing ceremony. Sergio became the spontaneous chaplain of the national Brazil team and reports that this event has opened Brazil wide for chaplaincy at every level. Chilean Mission Trip Another two houses were built through Homes for Hope by an Aussie team assisted by CS. In February, more homes will be built, a surf contest run and a surf camp with the next CS missions team from Australia heading there, along with members from Brazil. This is all laying foundations for a CS work to set up in Chile. Contact BD on brett@christiansurfers.net for details. Taiwan CS First Contest Chris Chon reports, "I was really nervous when preparing because I had never done anything like this before. I wasn't sure if people would show up or if we even have waves. The Lord was very faithful and we had 51 surfers sign up and the first day of good weather and waves after three weeks of unsurfable conditions. I was a judge along with three other Taiwanese guys. Before the start of the contest I was able to share about CS and we had a ton of fun cheering our friends on in each heat, serving hot drinks and hanging out. At the end of the contest we had a BBQ in one of the surf shops. I was able to share a short message of the God of the waves before we did our prize ceremony. Pray for leaders and breakthroughs." Quem disse que o Surfe não combina com espiritualidade?

Praticantes do Esporte no Ceará lançam livro e filme sobre o tema

Os Surfistas costumam dizer que quando estão no mar se sentem mais próximos de Deus. É essa a idéia que a organização Surfistas de Cristo reforça em Fortaleza, hoje combinando Surfe, cinema e cristianismo, no lançamento do filme Walking On Water (Andando sobre a Água).

O longa documental relata a aventura de dois garotos que recebem convite para surfar nas melhores praias do mundo. Na viagem, eles conhecem outras pessoas e descobrem historias que vão alem do surfe, convergindo para algo divino.

O responsável pelo lançamento do filme no Ceará é o surfista e pastor Marcos Santos, o "Marquitos", 33anos, presidente da Missão Surfistas de Cristo Ceará (MSC)..

"Fazemos a combinação entre o Surfe e o cristianismo", afirma, destacando que o filme pode ajudar a mudar a imagem negativa que muitos tem dos surfistas.

"Nosso objetivo é transmitir as pessoas uma mensagem de vida e de benção no surfe"

O filme retrata a história de dois garotos, Luck Davis e Tyler Hallen, que recebem o convite do surfista Bryan Jennings, Fundador/Diretor da FUNDAÇÃO WALKING ON WATER, para realizarem uma viajem pelos picos de surf mais paradisíacos do mundo como Havaí, Peru, Austrália, Indonésia, África do Sul e França. Durante a viagem, eles conhecem os surfistas, Tom Curren, três vezes campeão mundial; Bethany Hamilton, que sofreu um ataque de tubarão; os Top surfers CJ, Damien Hobgood, e vários outros feras.

Na surf trip, Luck e Tyler, ao lado de seus ídolos, aprendem com os “mestres” que existe algo ainda melhor do que as ondas mais alucinantes, que é o relacionamento do ser humano com Deus.

Juntamente com o filme foi lançado a Bíblia do Surfistas de Cristo, na qual vários surfistas dão depoimentos sobre suas experiências com Deus, Intercaladas com citações bíblicas.

PROJETO MISSÃO desde 1999

No Ceará , a Missão Surfistas de Cristo começou em 1999 pelo atual presidente da entidade, Marcos Santos. "o Marquito". O Trabalho iniciou na praia do Titanzinho e foi estendido a praia do Futuro.

No Titanzinho, a Escolinha dos Surfistas de Cristo beneficia crianças que, além das aulas, recebem orientação psicológica e ambiental.

Segundo Marcos, o numero de adeptos do cristianismo entre os surfistas é crescente.

"Eles melhoram o relacionamento familiar, a inclusão social e desempenho no esporte".

Um Exemplo de sucesso entre os Surfistas de Cristo é Glauciano Rodrigues.

Ele teve problemas com Drogas e chegou a ser preso. Hoje,voltou ao esporte e aos títulos.

Lançamento do Projeto Cine House para toda a Comunidade do Surf do Guarujá

O Projeto Cine House exibiu neste último sábado (22/05), às 20h, na Surf House, Rua Antonio Marques,195 - Praia do Tombo, Guarujá (SP), o filme “Walking on Water”, dirigido e produzido pelo californiano surfista profissional Bryan Jennings. Com a Surf House lotada, surfistas da região do Guarujá, como Danilo Costa, prestigiaram o lançamento do filme.

O Projeto Cine House, tem a idealização e organização, feitas por Ademir Silva, Luis Carioca, Geraldo Bella e Alexandre Neh. O Projeto Cine House visa levar entretenimento, lazer, cultura e evangelismo para os Jovens do Guarujá e toda galera ligada ao Surf.

O Filme “Walking on Water” conta a história quando Bryan Jennings (Fundador e Diretor do www.walkingonwater.com) com 14 anos de idade, foi levado em sua primeira surf trip por um surfista profissional local. Esta viagem teve um efeito duradouro sobre a sua vida.

Neste filme "Walking On Water", o surfista Bryan devolve o favor que ele recebeu para os jovens chamados (Tyler e Lucas) literalmente ao redor do mundo, na esperança de que também será mudado para sempre. Ao longo do caminho eles encontram-se com o surfista 3X Campeão do Mundo chamado Tom Curren, e a adolescente sobrevivente de ataque de tubarão chamada Bethany Hamilton, e mais os tops, surfistas profissionais CJ e Damien Hobgood, e muitos outros. Dos criadores de The Outsiders e Arc Noahs vem uma história sobre encontrar a fé sobre a jornada de uma vida. O filme apresenta cenas gravadas no Hawaii, Peru, África do Sul, França, Austrália, Indonésia.

A estréia atraiu grande público, que lotou a Surf House e deu perspectiva para os criadores do Projeto Cine House expandir a cultura surf.

"Essa é a primeira vez que apresentamos um filme no Telão na Surf House, com pipoca, descontração, música ao vivo e tudo gratuitamente. Teremos mais filmes de surf ao longo do ano e estamos felizes em abrir o Projeto Cine House, disseram Ademir Silva, Luis Carioca, Alexandre Neh e Geraldo Bella.”

Uma vez por mês, será exibido um Filme de Surf, com o objetivo de entretenimento, lazer, cultura e evangelismo e também serão sorteados brindes entre os presentes no evento.

O Projeto Cine House tem como proposta, a cada 4 meses fazer uma parceria com a Prefeitura do Guarujá para levar o Projeto Cine House para todos os bairros do Guarujá (Santa Rosa, Santo Antonio, Morrinhos, 14Bis, etc.), afim de que todos possam ter acesso á exibição de filmes de Surf.

Dentre os presentes na platéia estava o surfista Danilo Costa, Gustavo Sanches, Edgar Groggia, Wesley Morais e Gabriel André.

Houve sorteios para quem foi assistir a estréia do filme e pode sair de lá com um quadro de surf do artista Maikeira e também equipamentos de surf dos apoiadores.

The Surf Report #43: Europe Conference, South Africa, Tahiti WOW Premiere, CS Argentina

Chaplaincy - Highlights from Bells to the Maldives Abe Andrews reports slow but steady acceptance from the guys and Billabong included him as part of their staff team in Tahiti. Liselle reports that the women's tour is so much more closed and harder to crack. She persevered in the Australian events and now has a massive 5-month break. Brad Whittaker opted for shared accommodation in the Maldives event and was randomly picked to stay with eventual winner Owen Wright and his father, amazing Godincidence! Andy Pitt, Africa Chaplain, attended an O'Neill event before making it to the Mr Price Pro then J-Bay. An application for a Japanese regional chaplain has been received, which could be the first sports chaplain in their nation. CS Australia sent six leaders to a chaplaincy training course readying themselves for future chaplaincy in the amateur ranks. Son Surf South Africa After some decline in national missions in Son Surf South Africa over the last while, new national coordinator Richard 'Snoek' Leaonard is stoked to report they have doubled their missions to 18 this year and last month's conference went off! A new surfer friendly gospel presentation on DVD is currently being produced. The J-Bay office has relocated to a better building and two pioneering interns are serving well. Tahiti WOW Premiere Kevin Hemingway felt frustration at not being able to premiere the new Walking on Water film during the Billabong main event at Teahupoo. Seemed God had other plans and a last minute programming change enabled him to see the film shown to his entire nation on the week following the event on prime time TV! Pacific Regional Coordinator Alan Vink and Brett Davis had the opportunity to present Kevin with a belated 10-year service award during a visit in May. CS Argentina Maddie reports that CS Argentina had their first meeting in April, a surf camp. Two guys were invited by someone they barely knew and they're stoked to report that both became Christians! Maddie says "We were mostly gathered from two different spots in Argentina and the two guys showed up because God had something for them that weekend. We're happy to see how everything moves forward as we let God act in this newly emerging CS affiliate nation." Surfistas De Cristo - Venezuela Surfistas de Cristo (CS Venezuela) will be hosting a large outreach in conjunction with two local churches in July. Titled the 'Beach Kids Games' national leader Luis Gutierrz would appreciate prayer for the event to run well and lives to be touched. Walking on Water With structural changes, WOW are partnering with CS to roll out a world tour premiering their new film in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Very exciting for local CS missions to be able to host their own premieres with WOW support. Reversal Surf E-Magazine Bobby Schutz and his partner on Kauai have done an awesome job putting together a brand new e-magazine entitled Reversal Surf, along with this they have also produced a Gospel of John. Check them out and spread them around! Europe Conference 37 leaders and contacts from 10 nations met in Biarritz in June to discuss the best strategies to reach the booming European surfing community. These included two from Sweden, one from Switzerland and a host of others. Phil Williams is stoked to introduce Shane Sparks as our new European Field Worker, volunteering his time with Pioneers over the next two years. Spanish Surfers Bible The Spanish Surfers Bible is in the print line with Bible Society Brazil. A launch is hoped for in El Salvador at our Americas Conference July 24. We have 5000 Bibles and hope to distribute these at the ISA games and others soon. Contact your national leader or email us for details.
