Shaper John Carper

Que ce soient Shane Dorian, affrontant les barrels géants, Peter Mel les monstres de Mavericks ou Rochelle Ballard de gigantesques tubes, il n'ont qu'un seul label sous leurs pieds : JC.

JC sont les initiales de John Carper, fondateur de JC surfboards.
John a habité et surfé dans les îles d'Hawaï pendant plus de 35 ans.





« J'ai commencé à surfer à 10 ans au début des années 50. Le surf a aussitôt pris une grande place dans ma vie. Suivre les vagues a été source de bonnes comme de mauvaises expériences : j'ai adopté pendant ma jeunesse tous les mauvais côtés du Surf. »

Les initiales JC désignent aussi une autre influence majeure dans la vie de John :
Jésus Christ.





« Je suis devenu chrétien il y a environ 20 ans, grâce à une série d'évènements. L'un des plus importants fut de me fracturer les cervicales un jour de grosse houle à Hawaï. J'ai été à moitié paralysé pendant un an et demi, et j'ai commencé à lire la Bible. Une fois guéri, j'ai vécu sans argent dans une cabane. Un vrai clochard.

J'avais faim et des vieilles dames m'invitaient régulièrement à leur étude biblique où il y avait de la bonne nourriture. Toutes les semaines je jurais de ne pas y retourner et pourtant je ne pouvais pas m'en empêcher. Et puis un jour, Dieu ouvrit mon coeur et me révéla qui il était.

J'ai alors compris que si je voulais suivre la bonne voie, je n'avais pas d'autre choix
que de le suivre. Dieu m'avait permis de devenir shapeur, c'était une bénédiction
et je désirais la partager avec d'autres.





C'est donc à travers « JC Surfboards » que j'ai choisi de servir le Seigneur.

Je ne veux pas paraître super spirituel, mais il est vrai que j'ai trouvé dans la Bible, de véritables réponses à mes questions et des enseignements qui allaient guider ma
vie. J'ai fait d'elle mon « Manuel des Affaires ». »

Maintenant John cherche à toucher d'autres surfeurs, comme il a été touché par ces vieilles dames.

« J'ai toujours aimé faire la fête et voir du monde, mais après avoir rencontré Dieu,
j'ai réalisé qu'il était inutile de se saoûler pour s'amuser.

Etsuko, ma femme, aimant cuisiner, c'est en combinant nos talents et désirs qu'aujourd'hui nous recevons des gens à dîner.

» John et Etsuko proposent au delà de ces repas une nourriture spirituelle : la parole de Dieu.

Comme l'a dit Jésus dans l'Evangile de Jean : « Je suis le pain de vie. Celui qui
vient à moi n'aura jamais faim, et celui qui croit en moi n'aura jamais soif »

JC recommande donc JC comme seule et véritable satisfaction.

Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Special Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Update Updates from David Levey, National Director of CS Japan: 16/3/11 "Food is running low, people are stockpiling petrol and the threat of nuclear contamination is our biggest fear. Even as far away as Tokyo there is some panic. We found a lady who owns a car sale yard and she donated some petrol, so I am about to drive a truck with food and water 6 hours north to the exclusion zone. There we will drop it off at a local church for distribution." 16/3/11 "A comida está acabando, as pessoas estão estocando gasolina e a ameaça de contaminação nuclear é o nosso maior medo. Mesmo tão distante de Tóquio, existe pânico. Encontramos uma senhora que possui uma loja de vendas de carro e ela doou alguns litros de gasolina, desde então estamos dirigirndo um caminhão com alimentos e água 6 horas ao norte para a zona de exclusão. Vamos deixár em uma igreja local para a distribuição." 18/3/11 "I returned home after touring along the coast from Iwaki. We found communities that even the army had not made it to yet. There is little food or water, no power and it's cold. We have spent over $2,000 of our own money buying up whatever food we can. Some surfers connected with a church called Honda Chapel have had teams every day serving. People have been told to evacuate, but there's no fuel to get out, and lines up to 3km long at petrol stations that are almost empty themselves. They will then only sell you 20litres. We helped a lady who was stranded with her three small children to get to Chiba when her car broke down." 18/3/11 "Voltei para casa depois de visitar ao longo da costa de Iwaki. Encontrámos comunidades que até mesmo o exército não tinha feito visitas. Existe pouca comida ou água, sem energia e faz frio. Gastamos mais de US $ 2.000 do nosso próprio dinheiro comprando qualquer tipo de comida que pudermos. Satoshi's Story David Levey e Satoshi dos Christian Surfers Chiba, que se juntaram com uma equipe local do acidente (Terremoto & Tsunami) nos relata sobre seu trabalho voluntário as vitimas, veja abaixo: "Obrigado a todos suas orações, nós fomos capazes de assegurarem o fornecimento de segurança tão necessária para algumas áreas muito carentes. Á medida que tomaram parte nesta equipe de assistência crise, experimentamos uma orientação maravilhosa de Deus e milagres. Por isso, queremos compartilhar isso com você". Quando decidimos participar no trabalho de alívio, não foi como se tivéssemos tudo que precisávamos, desde o início. Mas como nós oramos e pedimos ao Senhor para orientação, nós fomos capazes de emprestar um furgão de Surftech, o dinheiro começou a entrar, fomos capazes de comprar cargas de alimentos, emprestar um tanque de 500 litros de água, e de alguma forma obter um porão de um pouco de gasolina extra! Apenas em questão de dois dias! Temos tudo pronto e nos encontramos com o resto da equipe em Chiba Oyumino Igreja (a principal força motriz por trás deste trabalho de ajuda com Crash). Ficamos surpresos ao ver um dos nossos companheiros de ex-CS lá, que agora é um jovem pastor de uma igreja em Tóquio, e sentiu a mão orientadora de Deus por trás dessa missão. Havia oito de nós dirigindo três veículos até Iwaki City, que está em Fukushima. Fomos capazes de usar as estradas com portagem porque fomos capazes de obter passa a fazê-lo do governo (um milagre em si, de acordo com muitos outros que estavam tentando obter tal passar um sem qualquer proveito). Não foi uma viagem segura, de longe, com fendas e indentetations nas estradas. Mas chegamos lá com segurança em cerca de 6 horas. A cidade de Iwaki era como uma cidade fantasma, com todas as lojas e restaurantes fechados, sem ninguém à vista, exceto a fila enorme de carros na frente do posto de gasolina (que nem sequer é aberto!). Desde cidade Iwaki é apenas fora do 30K raio da explosão nuclear, há muitos moradores presos lá sem ter qualquer tipo de assistência, fornecimento ou a cobertura da mídia. E devido à falta de gasolina, muitos que querem evacuar, não podem simplesmente. Então nós dirigimos por esta cidade fantasma e foi para a igreja. A eletricidade e a água tinha sido restaurado para a área onde a igreja foi, então descarregados todos os suprimentos, exceto a água. Estávamos prestes a sair quando o pastor nos parou e perguntou se nós poderíamos ter uma família de 4 de volta para Chiba conosco. Esta família foi no seu caminho para fugir para a casa de um parente, em Chiba, quando seu carro quebrou e teve de voltar para Iwaki. Como é que o timing? Nós pudemos ver a mão de Deus no presente, como a nossa van (emprestado de Surftech) foi o único carro que realmente pode levar os passageiros que nele (os outros dois eram caminhôes). Então fizemos nosso caminho para o sul para o norte Ibaragi ea Cidade da Hitachi. Enquanto nós dirigimos na rota 6, podemos ver todos os danos causados pelo tsunami e sentiu a intensidade ea magnitude da catástrofe. Chegamos ao local de refugiados no Norte Ibaragi onde achávamos que estava a precisar de água, mas os caminhões do exército já estavam l&qacute; a passagem para fora da água. Então, nós fizemos nossa maneira de Hitachi City, mas, novamente, a eletricidade ea água tinha sido restaurado lá e ficamos presos com toda essa água! Se tivéssemos de continuar com o peso destes reservatórios de água, nós estávamos em perigo de não ter gasolina suficiente para chegar em casa para Chiba. Estávamos prestes a deixar a água para fora, quando um dos membros da equipe disse: "Espere! Vamos olhar mais uma vez!" Então fomos para uma igreja que um dos membros da equipe sabiam. Era uma chamada de risco como nós realmente não conhecia nenhum dos membros da igreja ou o pastor dessa igreja, e quais seriam as chances de alguém estar lá em tudo? Quando chegamos à igreja, havia um carro estacionado, mas tudo parecia muito calmo. Estávamos prestes a desistir, quando uma pessoa apareceu. Ele acabou por ser o fundador desta igreja missionária, e foi apenas uma queda na afixar um aviso a dizer que a aula de Inglês foi cancelado! Também descobri que esta igreja foi a que recebeu a equipe da Missão de Verão de andar sobre a água no verão passado! Nós explicamos o nosso dilema para ele, e ele nos disse que há uma área próxima, sem água encanada. Então, seguiu para lá. Com certeza, as pessoas se alinharam logo que descobriu que havia água! Muitas pessoas nos agradeceu com um sorriso gigante, e fomos capazes de compartilhar o evangelho com muitos. 1.500 litros de água se foi num piscar de olhos. Soubemos depois que este missionário, que nos levou lá estava a ponto de plantar uma nova igreja nessa área. Se tivéssemos desistido e deixar a água mais cedo, nós nunca teria sido capaz de ajudar todas essas pessoas ou semear as sementes do evangelho como nós fizemos! E como nós dirigimos para casa para Chiba, vivemos um outro milagre provisória de Deus. Nós estávamos ficando sem gasolina e postos de gasolina foram fechados ou tiveram as linhas que foram quilómetros de extensão. Nós não podemos fazê-lo de volta ... Foi quando um dos motoristas receberam uma chamada e quis puxar para o lado da estrada. Não passou a ser um posto de gasolina ali, fechado e amarrado fora, mas alguns trabalhadores foram vistos no interior. Assim, um dos membros da equipe entrou e explicou nossa situação. Os trabalhadores da estação de deixar-nos e nos encheu até a borda, não apenas nos tanques de carro, mas também em todos os recipientes de gás de reposiçã o. Deus é nosso provedor! "Não te mandei a você, Seja forte e corajoso Não vos assusteis;?. Não desanime, pois o Senhor teu Deus estará com você onde quer que vá." (Josué 1:9) Através desta viagem, eu aprendi que Deus, nosso Pai está sempre conosco. Eu também senti que o Senhor estava me ensinando a pregar o evangelho em tempos bons e ruins.

TSUNAMI - March 11, 2011 - Japan, Miyagi, Sendai

Velocities of normal ocean WAVES are about 60 km/hr to 100 km/hr while TSUNAMI have velocities up to 950 km/hr (about as FAST as JET AIRPLANES).

IMPOSSIBLE to catch TSUNAMI WAVES.

Problems are at thie stage that getting to worst effected areas is almost impossible. Trains are down, roads are down, gasoline is running out and due to possible radiation leakes people are warned to stay away. Please pray for these things that are hampering rescue efforts.These are the most urgent prayer needs right now.

Problem is the devastation is so wide spead that many areas 3 days later have seen no rescuers or aid being brought in. Please pray for these people and our team members as take in some suppiles over the next few days.

In the coming weeks as things settle down , will look at taking volunteer teams, we hope from Christian Surfers Japan.

The Surf Report #51

Chile Aid In February a team from Christian Surfers in Australia and Brazil and Misfit Aid in Sydney joined forces to serve in the Chilean surfing community of Pichilemu. "We acheived so much more than anticipated, having built a home for an earthquake affected family, accomplished much work on a local community centre and run a surf contest!" said team member Aaron Hughes. The Pura Vida Surf Festival was held in pumping waves at Punta de Lobos with 5 divisions that saw local juniors to older longboarders surfing for goodwill, trophies and prizes that their Australian friends had brought over. Local surfer Nathan Anderson said, "The CS team were such an encouragement to us, many people have had a hard time since the earthquake and it's good to know we are not forgotten." The team had an extra challenge when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked their road trip as they travelled with 10 other Chilean surfers down the south coast - it made for a very speedy pack up of their beachside camping! You can check out a blog account of the trip on BD's Blog. ASP Chaplaincy Update ASP recently affirmed chaplaincy at its AGM on the Gold Coast of Australia. Chairman Richard Grellman says, "The ASP is so thankful to CSI for facilitating chaplains to the World Tour. The loss of Andy Irons tested the value of the chaplains and both Abe Andrews and Liselle Wilsnagh did a great job. ASP now considers the chaplains part of the landscape of professional surfing." Andrew Carruthers has just been appointed as the ASP Longboard World Tour Chaplain and he, along with the Men's and Women's World Tour Chaplains, fund their own way with the support of the CS and church community to serve the World Tour professional surfers. Funding for chaplaincy from a start-up trust fund is now finished and chaplains are all the more needy of your support. Brazil Chaplaincy Update Marquito Santos has stepped out of his role as a Presbyterian pastor to be chaplain on the Northern Brazil professional surfing circuit. He says, "I am so stoked to be out amongst the guys whom I have competed with over the years, not just as a competitor now, but as a support to them. There is plenty of need we can meet here." Surfistas de Cristo Brazil President Sergio Busatto is stoked that Marquito and also professional photographer Motauray are together chaplains to the whole Brazilian pro circuit. Regional Meetings Regional meetings for Christian Surfers leaders are being held for the Pacific in April in New Zealand, for Africa in April in South Africa, for Europe in France in May, for the Americas in North Peru in July and for Asia also in July, location TBD. These meetings will provide networking and leadership devleopment for Christian Surfers leaders globally. We are already seeing good partnerships come as nations with more resources share with those of less resources, including CS Holland recently funding Tablistas Para Cristo in Peru for their ISA World Games support. Soul Surfer Soul Surfer, a new film from Sony Pictures staring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, Carrie Underwood and AnnaSophia Robb, will bring to the big screen the remarkable story of Bethany Hamilton, who gained international fame after her arm was taken by a shark over 7 years ago. She has inspired many with her determination, faith and courage to get back into surfing and competition. Soul Surfer will be released globally in April, 2011 and CS groups are encouraged to promote this to the surf community and utilize pre-release opportunities. CS Spain to be Launched Shane Sparks reports that the Christian Surfers movement in Spain is affiliating and organising themselves as a national movement. "We have had people from all over Spain make contact with us, and our first national meeting amazed us when over 40 surfers showed up! Christian Surfers International 2010

Christian Surfers International is a trans-denominational mission movement that shares the love of Jesus amongst the global surfing tribe. It was founded in the early 1970's on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.

Since the late 1970's Christian Surfers has been reaching out to surfers. Christian Surfers International was born in 1999 when Christian Surfer groups from a number of countries joined together as an international movement.

The movement, which is incorporated as a not-for-profit in Australia, also has chapters in New Zealand, The United States, The United Kingdom, South Africa, France, Japan, and Brazil.

It now has a mission presence in over 20 countries around the globe, and has received recognition for its commitment to the international surfing community, organic faith initiatives, and compassion activities such as Tsunami-relief and other aid projects.

CS (as it is often referred to) publishes a yearly color pictorial 'Groundswell Magazine', runs mission trips, camps and surf comps (such as the Jesus Pro Am), premieres films through the Walking on Water Foundation, provides a positive mentoring environment for young surfers, offers hospitality for traveling surfers, and undertakes numerous social action initiatives (in the countries listed above, and also abroad).

At its core the movement is about spiritually aware surfers using surfing to make the world a better place - by sharing Jesus' love.

Liderança: Fale devagar e então posso te ouvir

Ler a programação é fundamental para potencializar oportunidades. Ter objetos sólidos no solo para alinhar e manter nossa posição é essencial tendo em conta a natureza mutável do oceano. Da mesma forma, líderes dentro do SC precisam de princípios sólidos e imutaveis para firmá-los e assim podem potencializar as oportuidades em seus ministérios. A Programação para a Liderança traz Princípios de liderança imutáveis para manter você e o ministério que você lidera no topo.

Fale devagar e então posso te ouvir! Por Alan Vink Você está sentado na sua reunião de planejamento local dos SC para o próximo ano. Todos tem uma opinião sobre o que seria a melhor direção a seguir. Alguns querem ser mais baseados na comunidade oferecendo refeições e visitas em casa. Outros querem noites com filmes evangelísticos e ainda outros tem paixao por servir a comunidades em campeonatos. As pessoas estao empolgadas e um pouco agitadas parece que ninguém está ouvindo ninguém e não há uma visão clara do que o grupo realmente é como missão SC na cidade. Você é o líder da missão e algo precisa ser feito. Há uma pausa na reunião, todos os olhos miram em você (alguns suplicando, outros brilhando), o que você diz? Alan Vink oferece algmas sugestões abaixo... Sem dúvidas - nós vivemos num mundo de palavras. É bem barulhento lá fora resultando em nossas mentes esgotadas. Claro, nem todas as palavras tem a mesma importancia ou peso. Isso me parece que uma questão crucial do líder é o habilidoso e objetivo uso das palavras a todo tempo mas especialmente quando fala para uma congregação ou para um grupo. Provérbios 25:11 diz assim: "A palavra proferida no tempo certo é como frutas de ouro incrustadas numa escultura de prata." (NVI) Comunicação ineficiente (ou doente) está na base de muitas das falhas. Pense sobre isso. Quanto do seu tempo como líder é gasto esclarecendo ou arrumando falhas de comunicação? A falha de comunicação está ao nosso redor. Ultimamente eu tenho implorado aos líderes para diminuir o discurso, parar com o barulho, para pensar mais profundamente antes de falar e trabalhar duro para trazer um som distinto. Alguém disse "Diga o que você faz e faça o que você diz." Aqui vão algumas habilidades que são essenciais para uma comunicação efetiva: Tenha uma preocupação genuína pelas pessoas que você está falando. Isto vem primeiro pelo ouvir atentamente. Muitas pessoas conseguem perceber se você está realmente interessada nelas ou não. Nós entedemos quais são as suas necessidades e problemas? As pessoas captam esta "vibração" e quando captam elas ouvem. E quando fizer isso, deixe as pessoas a vontade. Não é difíícil. Olhar nos olhos, gentileza, e é claro, um sorriso. Esteja bem apresentável. Seja Apaixonante. Comunicação efetiva não é só informação, fatos e percepções. É passar uma mensagem. Então é necessário paixão e emoção. É tocar o emocional das pessoas com o uso de palavras apropriadas, linguagem corporal, etc. Sem apelar para expressoes altamente emotivas. Mas, o uso apropriado da emoção pode ser algo bom. Quanto mais crítica a mensagem mais você precisa pensar antes de falar. Muitos líderes sopram ao vento porque não pensaram profundamnete sobre o que (e como) eles devem se comunicar. Se eu pudesse dizer algo aos líderes cristãos diria: Por favor, tenha cuidado. Pense antes de falar. Os líderes de muitos lugares são articulados, isso é parte do dom de liderança. O lado ruim é que podemos responder rapidamente, falando muito ou perdendo totalmente o foco. Use repetição. Sr. Winston Churchill disse: "Se você tem um ponto importante a fazer, não tente ser sutil ou esperto. Use o piloto automático. Acerto no ponto uma vez. Volte e acerte de novo. E então acerte pela terceira vez - uma devastação tremenda." (1) Eu sempre fico impressionado como as pessoas conseguem perder coisas na comunicação inicial especialmente se for informação "nova". Pra ser honesto eu fico indignado o quanto eu sou devagar em algumas ocasiões. Repetição da mesma mensagem é a chave para ter certeza que a mensagem foi ouvida e entendida. E finalmente, lembre-se: a mantenha curta e doce, sempre que possível. May 2011 see even more of God's Kingdom come to the world surfing community! ASP Chaplain Support In early November, the surfing world was rocked with the news of Andy Irons' death. Thankfully, CS had already set up the chaplaincy ministry and it is times such as this the chaplain is suddenly sought after. Abe Andrews was at the Puerto Rico event with the surfers at the time and reports an emotionally draining but fulfilling time as he helped organise the memorial paddle out and counsel many of Andy's friends. Similarly, Andy Carruthers was present as chaplain in Hawaii for the ASP World Longboard Championships and Liselle Wilsnaugh was still in attendace in Puerto Rico with the ASP Women's World Tour surfers. Foundations Training Foundations for leadership are just so...foundational! The CS Foundations Training material was worked through recently in New Zealand with Alan Vink, Foz, Mel Clark, BD and Gill delivering material to 6 key potential trainers in Raglan. In the UK a similar course has also just been run for leaders from Spain, Holland, the UK and Switzerland. Australia has appointed Dave Lovell to champion the training to be rolled out Australia wide. Ask your national leader for opportunities in your country. Soul Surfer In the works for some time already, a full-length movie of Bethany Hamilton's story will be hitting the big screens next April. Released by Sony Pictures and starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood, this will be one of the biggest surf movie releases ever. CSI is in talks with Bethany's management and Sony to put together tracts featuring Bethany's testimony to distribute throughout groups worldwide and share the gospel with surfers during it's release. ISA World Games Outreach - Peru The Peru CS team provided an amazing hospitality and servanthood ministry at the recent ISA World Games with 10 key volunteers working hard setting up, serving food, assisting staff and John Chuman was even appointed as the chaplain. They passed out 500 copies of the new giveaway version of the Walking on Water film through 30 nations, plus others and the contests organisers gave CS a massive thanks in the closing ceremony. Sergio became the spontaneous chaplain of the national Brazil team and reports that this event has opened Brazil wide for chaplaincy at every level. Chilean Mission Trip Another two houses were built through Homes for Hope by an Aussie team assisted by CS. In February, more homes will be built, a surf contest run and a surf camp with the next CS missions team from Australia heading there, along with members from Brazil. Taiwan CS First Contest Chris Chon reports, "I was really nervous when preparing because I had never done anything like this before. I wasn't sure if people would show up or if we even have waves. The Lord was very faithful and we had 51 surfers sign up and the first day of good weather and waves after three weeks of unsurfable conditions. I was a judge along with three other Taiwanese guys. Before the start of the contest I was able to share about CS and we had a ton of fun cheering our friends on in each heat, serving hot drinks and hanging out. At the end of the contest we had a BBQ in one of the surf shops. I was able to share a short message of the God of the waves before we did our prize ceremony. Pray for leaders and breakthroughs."
