Surfers Making a Difference Paddle-a-Thon 2010

Surfers Making A Difference Paddle-a-thon 2010

A local Christian Surfers group in Australia puts on a Paddleathon every year to raise money for impoverished children.

Brett Davis, Christian Surfers International Director leads the way on the 10th annual Paddle-a-thon raising money for 5 children to put them through school.

"Back in 2000 Mark Groves first came up with the idea to put on a paddle fund-raiser to cover the local CS group insurance, as well as sponsor a child. As the leadership of the group talked it out they decided to aim big - the sponsorship of 5 kids through Compassion Australia for not just 12 months, but 10 years. And now on Sunday May 16, 2010 we've seen the fruition of that dream and the reality of providing food, education and housing for 5 impoverished children for 10 years running. Over the course they've seen around 120 paddlers from as young as 12, and as old as 57 complete courses ranging from 15-30km."

Thanks to Mark Groves, Matt Jolley, Illawarra SLSC, Volunteer Coast Guard, Dickie Barton and Dave Macey.

Mission in Nigeria

Missão Pequeninos na Nigéria. .

Saving Africa's Witch Children (Nigeria)

. Documentary about Children in Nigeria

In some of the poorest parts of Nigeria, where evangelical religious fervour is combined with a belief in sorcery and black magic, many thousands of children are being blamed for catastrophes, death and famine: and branded witches. Denounced as Satan made flesh by powerful pastors and prophetesses, these children are abandoned, tortured, starved and murdered: all in the name of Jesus Christ.

This Dispatches special follows the work of one Englishman, Gary Foxcroft, who has devoted his life to helping these desperate and vulnerable children. Gary's charity, Stepping Stones Nigeria, raises funds to help Sam Itauma who, five years ago, rescued four children accused of witchcraft. He now struggles to care for over 150 in a makeshift shelter and school called CRARN (Child Rights and Rehabilitation Network).
