'Surfing
For Jesus is Pura Vida' - 'Pure Life' is the translation from this
classic Costa Rican saying and the conference was a taste of that!
Clearly focused on Jesus with beautiful unity amongst the 220 people
from 26 nations of all cultural, socio-economic and Christian
backgrounds - a taste of heaven. There was awesome teaching from Britt
Merrick, warm waves out front, hilarious cultural presentations,
inspiring stories from the field and more. Large crosses with CS-badged
logo on garbage bins were erected as a gift to multiple beaches in the
area. Special thanks to Dustin Miller and Damian Boza with the amazing
Costa Rican team who headed up the whole conference. Stay tuned for the
next conference to be held in Australia 2016! Check out photos, reports
and audio from the main sessions on our website.
The next CS International Conference will be in Hawaii during the week of November 4-9, with the full CSI representative Council meeting on November 3. Plan to be there! Limited to CS leadership as approved by your National Director.
High School senior Luke Harris (Justin Schwan) dreams of just one thing... pro surfing. With his best friend Casey (Angel Cruz) at his side, they have two goals: surf and party! But Luke's Mom (Raquel Gardner) and especially Dad (Greg Carlson) have other ideas: pick a college and grow up!
When Luke learns that a spot is opening up on the local surf team, he see's his big chance to prove to his parents that he can make it as a surfer and avoid being shipped off to school. Only two things stand in Luke's way: new-surfer-in-town Matt (Andy Shephard) who has his own eyes set on the surf team opening, and his Dad, who insists he give up his surfing dreams and get an education.
When a devastating tragedy strikes, Luke is forced to take a hard look at his life and with the help of beautiful "church-girl" Emily (Kelsey Sanders) and his Youth Pastor (Danny Smith), he learns that there's much more to life than riding waves.

The ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) chaplaincy project has been progressing very well and a number of key initiatives have been realised.
Abe Andrews (Men's Tour Chaplain) had a big year setting into his role and wrote from South Africa, "I have spent the past two days at the contest in freezing conditions supporting the surfers in whatever capacity I can. I guess sometimes the World Tour family feels like a tribe and I am the explorer, or outsider hoping to be accepted into the tribe. I just hope my fate is not like some early explorers who got eaten by the tribe."
Liselle Wilsnaugh has also made steady progress in her role as (Women's Tour Chaplain) and writes from Portugal, "It's been a pretty amazing few days as far as the chaplaincy is concerned... I got loads of time to chat to some of the surfers and their families. After my experiences at the previous two contests, God blessed me by giving me loads of favour with everyone. They all greeted me and actually seemed to be okay with me being there. I was able to have really good conversations with a bunch of the girls and their families and friends. It definitely felt like the prayes had kicked in."
Establishing a key chaplain for each ASP region was also a high priority in 2009. Currently Mike Stangel is looking after Hawaii, Lyle Castellaw, North America and Andy Pitt, South Africa. They have been developing event chaplains, building relationships with ASP Staffand providing essential support for Abe and Liselle when travelling in their region.
Mike Stangel comments on the upcoming Hawaiian Triple Crown "I was blown away by the open doors I received as chaplain last year. Randy Rarick has appointed a guy from our church as his successor to develop the pro events so we anticipate even better reception this year."
The Randy Rarick Story
CSI is seeking chaplaincy coordinators for the remaining ASP regions of Australasia , Europe, Japan and South America. Christian Surfers International is continuing to progress chaplaincy as a key initiative globally and along with the service for ASP are also looking into how we can support the ISA in a similar capacity.
Brad Whittaker who pioneered the project in 2008 has continued in a coordination role for the team this year. In addition he has also covered key events in Australasia pending the appointment of a suitable regional chaplains.
If you are interested in supporting our current chaplains or even being a chaplain, Brad will be happy to field your questions and interest.
'On the Rocks' is a surf evangelism video resource currently being produced by Son Surf South Africa. Imagine a surfer friendly Alpha course style DVD with solid gospel content delivered by surfers for surfers. Last month in Capetown the first of 7 videos had a trial run at a youth outreach concert. Of the 250 largely unsaved guys, some 120 came forward at the end of the appeal given by the DVD.
Gifted evangelist and surfer Terryn Williams delivers the material. Go to www.ontherocksdvd.info to learn more. Our South African brothers need some $USD12,000 to finalise this and have it ready for world distribution. Would you consider being one of the 12 giving $1000 or 24 giving $500 each? We want to see this completed by June 2010! Click here to donate.

Sometimes I find that I get very focused on the the small dot in front of me and miss the bigger picture. Sometimes I forget that Jesus said, HE would build HIS church and that nothing would stop it. HE went on to say that I'm simply to "remain" in HIM. It's not my job to draw the lost but merely to love them and share the Good News with them. Sometimes my days don't go so well and I think, "is Christian Surfers doing enough or doing anything for that matter?"
This week I was working on the praise reports from 2008. To me, those numbers represent faces and stories, opportunities and the "brick and mortar" of God glorifying Himself and man enjoying it. I was blessed as I added up simply one catagory - outreaches and chapter meetings. These are event where CSUS members intentionally love on people and truth goes forth. In 2008 this scenario occured1,369times all over the United States. Wow! Godisbuilding HIS Kingdom. I'm just glad I get be a part of it.

A surfista brasileira Samia Carolina, 25 anos, estreiou o projeto internacional Surf Solidário, na Ilha Lembongan, na última temporada indonesiana.
• Professionais da área da saúde e ensino;
• Trabalho de conscientização para preservação do meio ambiente, lixo reciclavel, e reaproveitamento com artes: Instruções de higiene pessoal, bucal, alimentar e no trabalho;
• Nutricionismo e culinária;
• Construções de casas e estabelecimentos comerciais;
• Ajudas gerais com limpezas, reformas, pinturas, etc;
• Habilidade para o ensino de artes plásticas, dança, música, incenação, e desenho;
• Cortes de cabelos, penteados, cuidado com as unhas, massagem e estética em geral;
• Corte e costura, croche, trico, bordado, etc.
